The women had their work cut out for them riding alongside the best men's halfpipe riders in the world, but easily rose to the occasion.
Kjersti Buass was boosting the biggest airs of the day, with an enormous air to fakie on her first hit. She also managed to throw in a nice crippler and rode with enough consistency to land her a 4th place finish. Stine Brun Kjeldaas left everyone asking "What? What?" after throwing a McTwist with a handplant in the middle and a nice frontside 7 on her way to a 3rd place podium finish.
Easily the most consistent rider of the day was Tricia Byrnes, who stuck McTwists and solid 5's all day long. The East Coast native was charging and the judges took note and awarded her 2nd place for her efforts.
Other notable finishers were Doriane Vidal and Natasza Zurek. Natty Z looked like she had what it took, but kept taking hard falls, including one on a first-hit crippler, that left her a bit shook up. Dorian and Natasza finished 5th and 6th, respectively. In the end it was hometown favorite Kelly Clark who took the top spot on the podium, busting enormous stock maneuvers, and mixing it up with a cork 5 and a super-stylie frontside 5. On one fall, Kelly busted her face up a bit, but gritted her teeth and put on quite a show for those in attendance. Courtesy, Fuse Sports Marketing |
