10th Annual Seefeld/Tirol, Austria December 12, 2002
The Nokia Air & Style Snowboard Contest celebrates its 10 year anniversary this weekend in Seefeld/Tirol, Austria. The event, which has produced some outrageous performances and parties in the past, annually attracts many of the top boarders in the world. This year is no exception, as 16 year-old phenom Shaun White will join fellow American and last year's runner-up Andrew Crawford in the field. They'll be challenging defending champion Stephan Gimpl of Austria and two-time winner Ingemar Backman of Sweden, among others.
This year's contest will feature changes in format and venue designed to bring fans closer to the action and to provide a bigger and better stage on which the riders can perform. The Straight Jump will be all new, with floaters, rails and other special features. And for the first time, riders will compete in two different categories: "Technical Jumps" with no limit in the turns and "Style Jumps," where 540 is the maximum turn allowed.
