Peppers and Pipe Prepare to Prove Punk Prowess in Park City This Weekend
Park City, Utah — December 18, 2002

Someone finally got it and brought the band to the playground. They've been blasting hip hop at terrain parks around the world for years but, this weekend they finally brought the music to the halfpipe (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and in return hopefully the people as well.

Of course, this IS Utah and only a certain amount of fun is allowed. I believe it's technically 3.2% fun but that's by volume and not weight. Either way the only way the town would allow these heathens in their midst was to bring out the local militia. Yep, to counter the fun factor there will be at least 60 of Utah's finest to ensure the fun doesn't exceed state law.

Adding to the spectacle will be another first for FIS, prime-time, baby. Apparently someone at US Skiing is ready to put their money where their mouth is and present snowboarding with a little snowboarding flavor. (i.e., Chili Peppers and Prime Time Saturday night placement). We'll see how NBC cuts this together for their "Power Hour" and airs it 24 hours after the event. Let's hope they keep it punk and thus keep more people from playing in our playground.

Stay tuned to MountainZone.com for the full enchilada, including the Parallel Giant slalom on Thursday, then the Halfpipe qualifiers on Friday followed by the Red Hot Chili Peppers during Halfpipe warm-up followed by the Halfpipe finals Friday night. Then on Saturday, the Jib Jam provides a vent for those angry riders who didn't make the cut to jib a chance at some more money before the weekend is over.
