Mueli Extends WC Lead
Parallel Giant Slalom #1
Alpe D'Huez, France — January 10, 2004

Michelle Gorgone (Sudbury, MA), who landed her first career World Cup podium with a third place finish in Whistler, continued her success on the World Cup tour with a 10th place parallel giant slalom finish Saturday. Daniela Mueli of Switzerland extended her overall parallel lead by defeating Austrian Doresia Krings in the women's final. Ursula Bruhin, also of Switzerland, finished third.

"I was in a fantastic mood today", said Mueli, who has hit seven podiums this season, including three wins. "This morning, I didn't expect that the organization would bring the slope into such a good condition."

On the men's side, it was a Swiss podium sweep with Urs Eiselin, Philipp Schoch and Heinz Inniger going 1-2-3. "I'm absolutely surprised about the way I race at the moment," said Eiselin after his third podium of the season.

Top American male was Ryan McDonald (Entiat, WA) with 19th.
