Lindsey Jacobellis (Bondville, VT) stepped up to the plate Monday night to win her first World Cup snowboard cross race in only her second career World Cup start at the floodlit Bucheben Ski Arena. In her first event, the 18-year-old Jacobellis finished second in halfpipe behind teammate Hannah Teter (Belmont, VT) at the September World Cup opener in Valle Nevado, Chile.

Canadian Dominque Maltais was second for the women ahead of Maria Danielsson of Sweden. Tom Velisek, also of Canada took the men's event followed by a one-two French punch of 2003 World Cup SBX champ Xavier Delerue and teammate Sylvian Duclos. Top American male finisher was Jason Smith (Basalt, CO) with 42nd.

"I'm absolutely surprised and lucky", said the current Junior World Halfpipe and 2002 Junior World SBX Champion. "You always need a bit of luck in finals like this one, but I had a perfect start."

Jacobellis, who one the U.S. Finals SBX title in 2003, will fly directly from Austria to Mammoth Mountain, Calif. to compete in the Jan. 11 SBX at the Chevrolet U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix. It will be the first national race of the season.

Action continues from Bad Gastein Tuesday with a nighttime parallel slalom. Olympic bronze medalist Chris Klug (Aspen, CO) and two-time Olympian Lisa Kosglow (Boulder, CO) lead the American contingent. Also competing is Adam Smith (Tangent, OR), who won the last World Cup PSL to be staged this season at the historic indoor event in Landgraaf, Netherlands.
