Gorgone, Klug Put U.S. Back into WC
Parallel Giant Slalom
Berchtesgaden, GER — February 8, 2004

Michelle Gorgone (Sudbury, MA) and Olympic bronze medalist Chris Klug (Aspen, CO) rocketed the American team back into the World Cup top-10 Sunday after a near month hiatus, sharing the No. 10 spot at the German parallel giant slalom. The duo was also joined in the final by Alaskan Rosey Fletcher (Girdwood, AK), who finished 14th.

Gorgone was the last U.S. rider to crack the elite number with a fifth place finish at the Jan. 11 World Cup in Alpe d'Huez, France. It was the 21-year-old's fourth trip to the final-16 on the season. For Klug, it was his first final since finishing 13th at the North American World Cup swing in the mid Dec. Whistler, British Colombia race.

"I'm ready for a good one," said Klug before the race. It's beautiful here now - I love racing here, probably because I've won on this hill before." Klug won in Berchtesgaden during the 2000 season.

Swiss rider Daniela Mueli landed her fourth PGS win of the season and notched her 10th podium topping the women's podium, while teammate Gilles Jaquet won his second career World Cup.
