Mattila Doubles Kreischberg Pipe
Halfpipe
Kreischberg, AUT — January 24, 2004

Finland's Risto Mittila lengthened his World Cup halfpipe lead Saturday scoring 46.2 points in the floodlit replacement for the cancelled Laax, Switzerland event to nab his second victory in two days. Fumiyuki Murakami of Japan was second with 43.9 points followed by Swiss rider Sergio Berger with 43.5 points.

"I can't believe it", said Mattila, who finished ninth in Big Air earlier in the day. "I was so tired from snowboarding the last few days, but I boosted my second run."

On the women's side, Soko Yamaoka bettered a third place finish from a day earlier, scoring 42.6 points for the win and the World Cup halfpipe lead. Ana Olofsson of Sweden and two-time Olympian Nicola Pederzolli of Austria finished 2-3 with 39.0 and 38.9 points respectively.

American riders opted to skip Kreischberg in favor of the X Games held the same weekend in Aspen, Colorado. The World Cup resumes January 31 with a downtown Big Air slated for the historic German city of Munich.
